BSMFC v PNS

 BSMFC vs. Peterborough Northern Star
Saturday 25th April @ Birds Close

Newly crowned UCL Division One Champions PNS were the visitors to The Sett for Bugbrooke’s final home game of the season. With an ever increasing injury list, and the significance of the Reserves’ trip to Huntingdon in their relegation dog-fight, boss Adam ‘Dad’ Turnbull again turned to players from within Bugbrooke’s A & B team’s to fill his squad. Defender Stuart Wootton kept his place from the midweek game and Sean Weston and Pete Mills also stepped up. Matt ‘The windmill’ Davenport made the long trip from his new home in Nottingham to partner Glen Smith at centre-half, with veteran Andy Chester returning at left back.
With The Badgers having lost the chance for a top six finish with indifferent results against strugglers Huntingdon and Irchester in the previous 7 days, and PNS collecting the trophy after a convincing 5-0 rout of Thrapston, there seemed little chance of a repeat of the blood and thunder encounter between the teams in the Junior Cup final at Nene Park only 10 days before.

Northamptonshire FA Les Underwood Junior Cup Final
Friday, 17 April 2009

Team - Steve Spruels, Gareth Hopkins, Shaun Daly, Glen Smith, Tim Knowles (c), Jimmy Moore, Jordan Casey, Dave Weedon, Jack Bartley, Will Briscoe, Lance Allen. Subs - Ady Pestell, Andy Chester, Gavin Nullatamby, Dave Gore

Well the big day had arrived - the first final for Bugbrooke St Michaels 1st Team in 17 years!

Adam Turnbull & Glen Moore had opted for an attacking side and formation, 4-3-3, which had the pace of Bartley, Allen & Briscoe upfront as well as skill, tackles & invention in midfield with Moore, Casey & Weedon. Even at the back, Hopkins & Daly were converted wingers playing at full back! Glen Smith (technically the best footballer at the club) was employed to sweep up behind ball winner Tim Knowles. Veteran defender/emergency striker Knowles had come off early in saturdays game but was declared fit after 3 days of treatment in his hamstring.
